BONJOUR! NOUS SOMMES ARRIVES A PARIS!
Apologies if the above is incorrect, google translate isn’t always reliable but we’ve arrived in Paris and are ready and raring to go!
We met out parents this morning and all headed to Ebbsfleet to jump on the Eurostar. We’ve never travelled from there before and were amazed at how quick and easy it was- we’ve since been persuading the parentals that an apartment in Paris would be a very good investment for them indeed… watch this space 😉
We’re staying in a Holiday Inn which is walking distance from Gard du Nord. It’s just been renovated and is far nicer than we were expecting, which was a bonus.
After dumping our stuff we headed to the expo- we wanted to get it out the way as we ‘d been warned the queues tomorrow would be ridiculous, and we want to spend as little time on our feet as possible. We definitely made the right decision as there were no queues at all, and we picked up our race packs in a matter of minutes.
We didn’t have long to look around as we had a dinner reservation to get to, but tried to see as much as possible.
There was a massive banner which had the name of all 54000 runners on (we had NO idea it was this big- nightmares of the crowds of London marathon are coming back to us…) but we managed to find our names and obviously get a token photo!
A few minutes later we spotted Scott Jurek- the famous ultra marathon runner. We were going to queue up for a photo with him but got stage fright and realised we weren’t sure what to say, so ran away, typical TITS behaviour.
Obviously we needed to buy some marathon memorabilia so each bought an Asics Paris Marathon t-shirt… I was slightly annoyed as the men had great bright colours, but they had diluted the colours for the women and they were all a little insipid and dull- why do they do this?!
We could have spent a few hours mooching around the stalls but had to head off quite quickly (via the vitacoco stand, of course.)
We met the parentals at a Japanese restaurant where we continued our carb-loading and decided that a few Gin & Tonics would definitely lead us to marathon success…
We’re going to get an early night now in anticipation that we’ll sleep badly tomorrow. My back has seized up today which is obviously quite worrying so I’ve been popping the ibuprofen and using my spiky ball of torture to try and ease the muscle spasm. I really, really hope it’s better tomorrow, but we shall see.
